Week 48: Weekend reading for health, wealth and happiness

By Sam Instone - November 26, 2020

Less than a month to go until Christmas!

And the good news keeps on coming.

After incredibly positive predictions for 2021 last week from Goldman Sachs and other commentators, we've seen a proliferation of articles on the expected surge.

Josh Brown posted an article this week about 'breadth thrust', or the signal that the markets are leaving a consolidation period and breaking out into a new bull market.

While things are looking up, David Armstrong reminds us that 'you never know what you don't know', and that a sound investment strategy grounded in patience is way better than trying to guess what will happen.

We can learn a lot about the future by reflecting on the past. Morgan Housel tells us there are two kinds of history to learn from; one is specific events, and the second is broad behaviours that show up again and again.

I'm proud to say AES now has a comprehensive library of free well-being webinars from knowledge leaders in their fields. These range from tips on raising children in the I-generation, to mental health and self-care. Plenty of information for you to absorb!

As always, and true to my own military roots, the final word is taken by former senior British Army officer, inspirational leader and Ironman champion David Labouchere on 'Awareness'. Can you see where there is no light and hear when there is no sound?

A question for you

Ask yourself - what is the net effect of your existence on the total amount of happiness in the world each day?

This week's meditations

"There is a difference between knowing the path and walking the path"
Morpheus, The Matrix

"When you walk with purpose, you collide with destiny"
- Bertice Berry

"Life isn't about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself"
- George Bernard Shaw
