Customer reviews
Pleased overall

German Care (now HanseMerkur) stood out for us because of the extensive coverage included as standard. We've found insuring with them straightforward, and whilst perhaps fees are less competitive than we would have liked, we're happy for the extra spend because of the extent of cover.

Expert verdict
Expert Assessment of HanseMerkur

We like HanseMerkur as they are one of the few insurers in their market segment that really focus on ensuring members are covered for severe conditions and situations, such as congenital, organ transplants and dialysis. Other insurers offer this cover as part of additional benefits or with low annual limits, focussing more on high luxury benefits.

Benefits on all plans for small groups and corporate are very flexible, with various options to change limits or add / remove certain benefits.

As they’re backed by Hansemerkur Insurance Group they have a high financial stability rating, and therefore will never run into issues with defaults on payments. Even though HanseMerkur is fairly new to the UAE market, they acquired an existing established local company, Expat Services, that has enabled them to hit the ground running. There are still occasional service issues, however they are always quick to react and improve when any of these issues are raised.

HanseMerkur in the UAE has a very small market share, with a small pool of business to spread the risk and as such they’re slightly averse to taking on risks. This often leads to higher fees for existing conditions when compared to other providers. Although on the plus side, this means a stable portfolio and their increases are generally below or in line with the market inflation.

Pairing with Henner has given them access to nearly 60,000 providers outside the Middle East and nearly 800,000 providers in the USA on a direct billing basis. Meaning members can get in patient and out patient treatment anywhere in the world and not have to worry about reimbursing.
