The pros

  • Provide coverage of group life & personal accident on benefit plus plans
  • Large American insurance company with strong financial support
  • Participating insurers (PI’s) in UAE and therefore offer cover to workers with low salary band (LSB) of AED 4K per month
  • Well recognised in the region
  • Offer their own app myMetLife to manage claims on the go
  • Manage their own network and process claims internally

The cons

  • A local branch of the international company and run independently as a local insurer
  • Customer service can be slow and excessively process driven (no personal touch)
  • Sole focus isn’t medical insurance and can focus on up selling more profitable group life and personal accident cover
  • MetLife doesn’t offer individual plans except for coverage to people with LSB of AED 4K
  • SME/business plans exclude road traffic accidents and work-related injuries

Customer reviews
Expensive and poor customer service

Largely underwhelmed with the customer service an ease (or lack of) claims...

Pushing prices up on renewal hasn't helped our opinion of MetLife...will be looking to move away next renewal unless things improve.

Expert verdict
Expert Assessment of MetLife

MetLife is one of the largest regional insurers with the ability to handle large corporates across the GCC region. With their own license in the UAE, they are able to compete with large international and small regional companies.

Upon evaluating their customer service, we found that they have long turn around times and are slightly robotic in their responses. Our clients and team members often feel dissatisfied with this level of customer service.

MetLife’s small medium enterprise (SME) medical insurance plans are straightforward with a good range of networks and benefits. However, due to a recent rate increase, at present they are slightly more expensive than their regional competition.

At AES International, we focus on providing long-term solutions, tailored to an individual organisation’s needs, to help you improve overall employee wellness, drive up productivity and engagement, and enable you to manage your corporate medical insurance spend year on year.

“Thank you AES International for helping me and my family with your low cost no-nonsense approach. It is refreshing!”

Kristian Petersson

“With this sort of service you also expect to be paying very high fees, but it’s just not the case. I would definitely recommend AES.”
