Swissquote is the offshore banking and trading service of Swissquote Group, Switzerland's leading online financial services provider, which is listed on the SIX Swiss Exchange. In the Gulf it operates through Swissquote MEA Ltd, a Dubai (DIFC) based subsidiary holding a category 3A licence from the Dubai Financial Services Authority, which acts as the local relationship office for Swissquote Bank Ltd; all client deposits and assets are held in Switzerland.
The expat account is a genuine multi-currency Swiss bank account (USD, EUR, CHF, GBP, ZAR, AUD and RUB) with no minimum balance and no account or maintenance fees, multi-currency Mastercard cards, strong foreign-exchange rates, and access to more than three million instruments across over sixty markets, including conventional and shariah-compliant investments.
Deposits held in Switzerland benefit from Swiss depositor protection of up to CHF 100,000 per client. Interest above CHF 200 is subject to Swiss withholding tax, and very large euro or Swiss franc balances can attract negative interest.

Our verdict
Swissquote has earned this rating for a simple reason: it behaves the way a banking relationship should. Fees are transparent and fair, there is no minimum balance and no account or maintenance charge, and crucially it does not exist to push in-house product at you. That alone sets it apart from other banks, where the account is really a gateway to a commission-bearing shelf.
What you get is a genuine multi-currency Swiss bank account combined with an excellent, low-cost trading platform: deposits and assets held in Switzerland under Swiss depositor protection, multi-currency cards, strong foreign-exchange rates, and access to millions of instruments across more than sixty markets, including conventional and shariah-compliant options.
Two honest caveats. First, despite the marketing, this is an online bank and trading platform rather than a traditional, full-service Swiss private bank; it does not carry the breadth of bespoke advice and service that name implies. Second, a full trading platform in the hands of an inexperienced investor can be a liability rather than an asset, because the platform gives you execution, not judgement. It hands you the tools; it does not supply the discipline or the plan.
That is the one gap worth closing. A transparent, low-cost Swiss account is an excellent foundation, but coordination across your investments, structures, pensions, protection and succession, and advice that answers only to you, is what turns a good account into a good outcome. If your investable assets are around GBP 1,000,000 or more, a no-obligation Second Opinion will show whether your platform is being used to its full advantage.
