Summary

Nedbank Private Wealth is a boutique, high-service private bank and wealth management business serving high-net-worth individuals and their families, offering wealth planning, investment management and private banking.

It is wholly owned by Nedbank but runs on its own capital base, board and independent credit rating, with private banking offices in London, Jersey and the Isle of Man and a representative office in Dubai, so it can book assets onshore or offshore and manage them across jurisdictions, which is especially useful for international clients and UK resident non-domiciled clients.

Banking includes multi-currency current accounts and fixed-term deposits in up to 15 currencies, Visa Platinum debit cards and a full foreign-exchange service, alongside residential and portfolio lending secured against investments or UK property. Its open-architecture investment platform offers globally diversified, risk-rated multi-asset, income and equity strategies, with multi-asset funds, ETFs and segregated discretionary portfolios, and pensions, ISAs, SIPPs, trusts and offshore bonds can be consolidated through a single point of access.

Our verdict

Nedbank Private Wealth is, in AES's view, one of the best offshore banking options available to senior international professionals, and it earns its rating on the things that usually go wrong elsewhere. It is open architecture rather than a captive product shelf, it takes no commission, there are no hidden charges and no fixed term, and banking, lending and investment management sit together under a single, genuinely personal relationship.

Structurally it is well-built. Although wholly owned by Nedbank, the business runs on its own capital base, board and credit rating, with private banking offices in London, Jersey and the Isle of Man and a representative office in Dubai, so assets can be booked onshore or offshore and managed across jurisdictions. That flexibility is particularly valuable for internationally mobile families and UK resident non-domiciled clients, and pensions, ISAs, SIPPs, trusts and offshore bonds can all be consolidated through one point of access.

The investment approach aligns closely with how AES believes investing should be done: globally diversified with no home bias, active currency management, and broad access to funds and ETFs rather than a short in-house list. That evidence-based, transparent foundation is exactly what serious wealth work is built on.

The one genuine caveat is that this is a high-net-worth proposition; the transfer, dealing and custody charges that come with a full private-banking service make it unsuitable for those with only modest amounts to invest. For clients with real wealth to coordinate, though, it is a platform AES is happy to recommend, whether or not you are an AES client. FAQs

  • What can I borrow against with Nedbank Private Wealth?

    • Subject to status, lending can be secured against a range of assets, including your investment holdings and property (including UK property), in sterling, euros or US dollars. This lets you raise liquidity without necessarily selling your investments.
