Week 47: Weekend reading for health, wealth and happiness

This week I read a couple of interesting predictions for 2021, with Goldman Sachs forecasting a '20% gain for the S&P 500', and Bill Ackman saying it will be a 'very, very good year'.

There's more positivity on the horizon...

As mentioned in last week's blog, I've been thinking a lot about 2021.

Part of being prepared as an investor is remembering that good planning underpins all good investing.

Imagine your life one year from today and the peace of mind a bullet-proof financial plan would give you.

Regardless of what happens in the markets, we certainly all want to be content and happy.

But so many of us make happiness dependent on something else...

"I'll be happy when I finally meet my soulmate."

"I'll be happy when I get that promotion."

"I'll be happy when I lose 10 pounds."

"I'll be happy when..."

Sound familiar?

What if you could just be happy, right now, just as things are?

We're often taught that happiness is the result of having something else or more, but that's simply not true.

In fact, it's a recipe for disappointment.

The truth is, happiness is a state of being you create within yourself.

In this special episode of The Tony Robbins Podcast, 'do you want to be happy?', author Michael Singer talks with Tony and his wife Sage about what it really means to be happy, and how we can all be happier right now.

Turning to wellness, I've included two interesting articles from Mindful, a site dedicated to having a healthy mind and a healthy life.

The first is '8 science-backed tips to sleep better at night', and the second on 'the brain science of attention and overwhelm'.

As always, and true to my own military roots, the final word is taken by former senior British Army officer, inspirational leader and Ironman champion David Labouchere on 'Facing Life'.

David's post contains one of my favourite equations;

Anxiety = Uncertainty x Powerlessness

We all have a choice: to let life happen to us, or to make life happen for us.

One is a life of fear, the other a growth-mindset of opportunity...
