The bank was established on 11 January 2010 from names you will be familiar with - when Abbey National plc was combined with the savings business and branches of Bradford & Bingley plc, and renamed Santander UK plc. Alliance & Leicester plc merged into the renamed business in May 2010.

Santander International offers banking and savings accounts for UK expats living or working overseas. They also offer international banking and savings accounts for UK resident, non-domiciled customers.
The headline services offered fall under Select Banking and Private Banking.
Select banking is offered to those who deposit £75,000 or more. Under this service, clients receive access to a dedicated relationship management team.
Products offered are:
Gold Bank Account - an everyday international bank account, available in Sterling, Euro or US Dollar currencies. Account holders receive a Visa debit card, which will be denominated in the currency of the account.
Call Account - an instant access savings account, which requires no notice for withdrawals. The Call Account offers unlimited access and is available in Sterling, Euro and US Dollar currencies.
Notice Account - a variable rate savings account, which requires written notice for any withdrawals. Available in Sterling and US Dollar currencies, with a range of notice periods to choose from.
Fixed Deposit Contracts - allows clients to fix money at an agreed interest rate for a set period of time. Available in Sterling and US Dollars, with a range of fixed time periods to choose from.
Foreign Exchange – via their accounts, clients are able to access Santander International’s functional Foreign Exchange service.
Private banking provides access to the same bank account products, but you will be allocated a dedicated relationship manager who, Santander International claims, will deliver a tailored service.
Private banking is available to those who deposit £1 million or more.
Via the Private Banking offering, clients will be offered a range of investment services – from discretionary portfolio management to structured products.
